Hello, I’m Bill Millios, the Director of Communications and Outreach for RID.
Today, I’m delighted to share with you the 2020 Practitioner Survey. This survey was co-developed by the RID Finance Committee, and RID Headquarters.
The Finance Committee is responsible for overseeing the finances of RID. In order to do that, they need to know how the membership is doing, financially. They recognize that many members have been adversely affected by the pandemic.
Headquarters wanted to join the effort. In 2010, there was a famous survey, and a resulting report, that was done by Betsy Winston and Dennis Cokely. That survey studied the practitioners of the time, looking at what types of work interpreters were doing. The RID Headquarters Survey has borrowed from that – many of the questions are the same. Headquarters and the RID Board recognize that the pandemic is quickly changing the way interpreters work, so we wanted to capture this shift. You will notice that some of the questions have “before” and “during” parts, which assess what the profession looked like before COVID19, as well as now during the pandemic.
Our goals here are simple:
– we want to know how to support interpreters better during this challenging time
– we want to know how things have changed for you since the pandemic has hit.
– We need to capture what “normal’ looked like before COVID19.
This survey should take you about 15 minutes. The questions for the Finance Committee are most important; if you have the time, we’d appreciate it if you filled out the entire thing. That will benefit the profession, and help RID HQ and the Board with our planning.
We will, of course, share the results with you when we have them.
