IRID Executive Board Message

Hi, my name is Teri Hedding. I’m the President for IRID and I’m proud to say I am the first Certified Deaf Interpreter for President of IRID.  Hi, I’m Mandy Grazian. I am IRID’s Vice President.  Hi, I’m Sara Lucas, the IRID Secretary.Hi, I’m Suzanne Salerno, the Treasurer. Also, there are four others on the Board. Member at Large 1: Cathy Silvern, 2: Mary Kocsis, 3: Olivia Heitz, and Student Representative: Mark McWilliams.

My first duty is this vlog. There will be vlogs sent out periodically keep you informed of what IRID has done, and will do, for all of you.

This current blog is open for anyone to watch, but going forward blogs are only for IRID members. So if you are interested in watching future blogs, you must become a member of IRID.

Also, we set up a new email address:

for all IRID members to ask questions, ask for resources, professional development, share ideas, really to ask questions about anything. Email Ask the Prez and I’ll be happy to respond periodically through vlogs or email.

If you are interested in becoming an IRID member, or if you are already a member, you can find more information at:

If you have questions related to membership or becoming a member, email:

If you are not a member yet, but are considering becoming a member, here are some membership benefits: members have access to professional development workshops and conferences, networking opportunities with other hearing and deaf interpreters, mentoring- either with a more experienced interpreter or one who specializes in an area you are interested in working. Mentoring provides opportunities to meet, ask questions, and learn from one another.

Another benefit is scholarships. We offer several scholarships annually. Members can apply and the Board will select the recipients for the scholarships to cover the the cost of certification testing, as in the NIC or EIPA.

This is just a snapshot of all the member benefits. We hope you are interested in becoming a member of IRID.

Hello! The new Board is ready to roll up our sleeves and dive right in! Our first priority is strategic planning. We want to figure out a plan for the next two years. We are brainstorming ideas, but we want to know your ideas for the strategic plan. If you want to share your ideas with us, email:

During the last member meeting, you discussed wanting to see a timeline. Well, we are working on finishing up the timeline to release soon.

We are thrilled to work with you in the coming years.
We look forward to working and collaborating with you.
