Samantha Cotter was introduced to sign language at an early age, growing up with peers who were Deaf. Her exposure to the language allowed for her to acquire a natural understanding of Deaf culture and the constructs of ASL. It was through these relationships that she was also introduced to interpreters and the interpreting process.
Samantha transitioned into Educational Interpreting in 2000, working for Hinsdale South High School, and obtaining her EIPA during that time. In 2007, she became a full-time practitioner, going on to earn her National Interpreter Certification in 2009. Samantha has since worked in a variety of settings including Tech, Finance, Postsecondary Education, and Entertainment, and has spent the last half of her career to date specializing as a Designated Interpreter. She is pleased to serve as Treasurer for IRID.
